We absolutely love staying in short‑term rentals—it lets us sink into the local vibe of every place we visit. There’s something truly wonderful about waking up, brewing fresh coffee, and enjoying a homemade breakfast in your own cozy space. That passion led us to create our own retreats in Southeast North Carolina: a historic Wilmington hideaway, a charming Hampstead home, and our newly remodeled beachfront condo in Topsail Beach on Topsail Island.

Our Story
Our journey began cruising with our families through the Panama Canal—that’s where Todd and I (Kristin) met. I was living in Minneapolis, MN and Todd in Sneads Ferry, NC. When I relocated here in 2019, I dreamed of becoming a host—and in 2023, we purchased our first short‑term rental in downtown Wilmington. We completely transformed the space with custom cabinets, ADA‑compliant features, and all the little amenities we seek when we travel.
The success and fun of that first renovation led us to remodel my mom’s Hampstead home, turning it into our second rental. Energized by that momentum, we acquired a top‑floor condo in Topsail Beach in 2025, boasting breathtaking ocean views and everything you’d want for a beachfront stay.
We live in Hampstead with our two spoiled cats. I recently retired after 35 years in banking, and Todd served 26 years as a Green Beret in the U.S. Army before retiring again from the DoD as a Language & Culture Training Director.
So why is TAKE in TAKE a Break, LLC all capital letters?
It's formed by our initials, Todd Amis Kristin Erickson (my maiden name).
